US Pres. Trump: Powell of Fed is always too late and wrong
US President Donald Trump accused Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell of being "too late and wrong" in a post on Truth Social on Thursday.
"The ECB is expected to cut interest rates for the 7th time, and yet, “too Late” Jerome Powell of the Fed, who is always too late and wrong, yesterday issued a report which was another, and typical, complete mess!," Trump said and added:
"Oil prices are down, groceries (even eggs!) are down, and the USA is getting rich on tariffs. Too Late should have lowered Interest Rates, like the ECB, long ago, but he should certainly lower them now. Powell’s termination cannot come fast enough!"
Market reaction
These remarks failed to trigger a meaningful market reaction. At the time of press, the US Dollar Index was up 0.27% on the day at 99.55.

Monetary policy in the US is shaped by the Federal Reserve (Fed). The Fed has two mandates: to achieve price stability and foster full employment. QE is the process by which the Fed substantially increases the flow of credit in a stuck financial system. It is a non-standard policy measure used during crises or when inflation is extremely low. It was the Fed’s weapon of choice during the Great Financial Crisis in 2008. It involves the Fed printing more Dollars and using them to buy high grade bonds from financial institutions. QE usually weakens the US Dollar.
Quantitative tightening (QT) is the reverse process of QE, whereby the Federal Reserve stops buying bonds from financial institutions and does not reinvest the principal from the bonds it holds maturing, to purchase new bonds. It is usually positive for the value of the US Dollar.
