TradingKey - OpenAI has announced it will accept e-commerce ads. This move aims to compete with Google.
On Monday, OpenAI revealed updates to ChatGPT Search. Users will now have online shopping options.
When users search for a product, ChatGPT will suggest related items. It will provide links, images, and reviews. All this info comes from third parties. The checkout happens on the retailer's website. ChatGPT is not involved in the transaction.
An OpenAI spokesperson said the company won’t charge for shopping through ChatGPT. This strategy is mainly to compete with Google(GOOG).
Previously, CEO Sam Altman was against ads in ChatGPT. Now, he’s open to e-commerce. Altman even said he would accept "tasteful" ads and earn a commission on recommended products.
