Republicans expand House Majority as crypto-backed candidates win key Florida races

Republican candidates Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine won in Florida’s special congressional elections, extending the GOP’s narrow House majority with strong support from crypto super PACs.

Fine won 56.7% of the vote against Democrat Josh Weil in Florida’s 6th District, while Patronis defeated Gay Valimont with 57% in Florida’s 1st District.

GOP gained seats in every category in a matter of months due to the cryptocurrency industry’s strong support

The Wisconsin and Florida special elections were crucial to gaining the narrow Republican majority required to push forward the pro-crypto legislation on stablecoins and market structure, which is still pending in Congress.

Both Republican campaigns received substantial funding from Defend American Jobs, a crypto PAC member of the wider Fairshake political funding network. In January alone, Fairshake raised more than $116 million to support the 2026 midterm elections, and the network donated about $133 million to support the 2024 elections. Ideally, its funding has helped the GOP win seats in every category in recent months and come close to securing regulatory support.

Following the victories in Florida and Wisconsin, Defend American Jobs sent an email stating that Patronis and Fine had shown a strong commitment to advancing policies that support cryptocurrency and ensuring that the U.S. led the world regarding digital assets and cryptocurrency innovation.

Based on their argument, their election was a victory for American jobs, innovation, and leadership. Their victory is also good news for the cryptocurrency industry.

Interestingly, Fine’s 14-point victory margin was significantly less than the 30-point lead that President Trump had in the same district the previous November. However, there was a key difference in campaign fund inflows, which could have contributed to the huge point gap. Fine’s campaign received roughly $ 1 million, while Weil’s campaign had about $10 million.

Meanwhile, before the elections started, Fairshake earned support from notable companies and individuals, including blockchain payments startup Ripple, exchange operator Coinbase, tech investor Andreessen Horowitz, and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

Judge Susan Crawford expresses her gratitude for winning the Wisconsin Supreme Court race

On April 1, voters cast ballots in Wisconsin, which has long been a battleground state. However, contrary to Republican expectations, Liberal Judge Susan Crawford won the state’s Supreme Court race.

Speaking at a Madison victory rally, Crawford expressed gratitude to her supporters, saying their votes helped send a message to the entire nation. She argued that Wisconsin residents successfully repelled an unprecedented assault on their Supreme Court, democracy, and free and fair elections. Furthermore, she acknowledged Wisconsinites for standing up and declaring that their courts were not for sale.

Although she did not mention Elon Musk’s name directly, she did discuss defeating his major spending push during the contest.

Crawford added that conservative candidate Brad Schimel had asked her to concede. She, however, praised him for his kindness and wished him and his family the best.

Finally, she shared a quote from Thurgood Marshall, the late justice of the Supreme Court, which she said was appropriate for “the unprecedented moment we are living in today.”
