Nintendo is set to expand its Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) Switch Online catalog with three new games. The games introduced are Fatal Fury 2, Super Ninja Boy, and Sutte Hakkun. The Japanese gaming firm’s online subscriptions will also allow gamers to access various tiers of retro platforms and their games.

Nintendo, the Japanese video game company, is set to give gamers more content to enjoy in 2025. The company will add games of different genres to its catalog and online subscription services.

Nintendo adds three new games to its SNES catalog

Fatal Fury 2, Super Ninja Boy, and Sutte Hakkun will join the list of games available on Nintendo’s Switch Online library. The Japanese gaming juggernaut announced that the three beloved classic games will be accessible to gamers around the world as of January 24th, 2025.

The Japanese gaming firm’s promotion materials guaranteed gamers ”puzzles, brawls, and ninjas galore,” with the three games adding to the Switch catalog’s fighting, puzzles, and action-adventure genres.  Beyond the SNES games, Nintendo also expanded its offerings to include additional subscription tiers through its Expansion Pack.

Fatal Fury 2, the second game in SNK’s 100-Mega Shock series released in 1992, will give fighter game lovers a chance to play the one-on-one classic fighter game on their Switch consoles.

Gamers will choose to fight as one of the available iconic characters from the franchise, such as Big Bear, Mai Shiranui, Andy Bogard, and Tery Bogard. Super Ninja Boy will add action, a combination of an RPG and action game, to Nintendo’s library. The game combines random encounters, side-scrolling fights, and comedic dialogue for both single and multiplayer modes.

Sutte Hakkun’s addition will be the debut of the 1997 action puzzle game in the West. Gamers will control Sutte Hakkun, a little bird-like creature, to collect rainbow shards distributed across various levels of the game. Gamers will have to collect the shards by moving and filling invisible blocks as the game increases in complexity.

The three games join Nintendo’s extensive collection of retro games, such as Super Mario and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which are available to gamers as part of the basic subscription.

Those who subscribe to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier will get access to additional features, including games for other retro platforms. The subscription allows access to the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and SEGA Mega Drive.

Subscription to this tier also allows access to expansions for other modern Nintendo games, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass. Nintendo provided no further information on the new additions to its catalogs, only releasing information on the recently revealed Switch 2 console.

Gamers speculate over the new SNES additions

Gamers online reacted to the news that the three games were being added to Nintendo’s catalog. Some expressed excitement over the inclusion of the new games, especially Fatal Fury 2. Others said they were excited to try out the new games, such as Super Ninja Boy and Sutte Hakkun, despite not knowing what they entailed. Some gamers stated that they were especially excited to play the games that had not made it to the West when initially released.

“I absolutely love these struggle versions of Neo Geo titles. Sengoku and Art of Fighting 2 also have SNES ports that never came to the West, and I think it would be cool to have them here as well.”

Sicker combos

Others took the opportunity to make requests to Nintendo. Some called on Nintendo to port Donkey Kong 64, originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, to the list of SNES games available in the SNES Switch Online basic catalog.

Some requested that the Japanese video game maker add a Game Boy Advance port for Mega Man & Bass as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
