The moderator of /r/pcgaming, the largest PC gaming community on Reddit, recently announced that it is banning X due to its “increasingly less moderated” and “hateful” mindset.
The announcement by the moderator Shock4ndAwe of /r/pcgaming on Reddit said that banning X had been in consideration for a long time. “X has become increasingly hateful, toxic, and less and less moderated.” Due to this, they felt uncomfortable promoting the posts on X, especially the “distasteful things Elon Musk has done recently.”
Apparently, Shock4ndAwe is referencing the “Nazi salute” by Musk while he was addressing at the inauguration of President Donald Trump. However, Musk has denied that it was a Nazi salute in an X post. He said, “The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is so tired”. Whether or not he meant it as a Nazi salute, the Reddit moderators are overall not happy with the unhinged vibe of X.
The mods have only banned linking to the X’s posts. They added that screenshots of the posts on the targeted platform are allowed. Moreover, rather than linking directly to the X post, users are also allowed to link to the articles discussing those posts. This way, the mods will avoid compromising the user experience and will not limit the freedom for discussions.
Musk has not made a statement about this; however, given how actively he sees what the gaming community is saying about him, he might actually end up commenting about it.
Lately, he was also accused of cheating because of his account-boosting strategy for Diablo 4 and PoE 2. The gaming community has been discussing the red flags they noticed in his live stream and how Elon Musk was barely familiar with the UI of PoE. Yet he was playing at the HC level of 97 which became the cause of suspicion.
Musk has already accepted account-boosting as a necessary step to play against the high ranked players and doesn’t seem much apologetic about it.
