2025’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was an overdose of IRL AI gadgets, and a few highlights

The CES is one of the most anticipated events in certain quarters. However, the 2025  showcase of AI-powered products unveiled some underwhelming showcases, including IRL AI like air fryers, spice dispensers, and AI game copilots.

AI products taking center stage at CES 2025 was indicative of the industry’s excessive enthusiasm. Other than the standard restrictions AI developers face, the industry has also faced a significant challenge in determining which AI use cases are technically feasible. It has also frequently overpromised and underdelivered.

OpenAI continues to make errors. Image generators are historically inaccurate, and the bodies of the characters in AI videos are indistinguishable.

Is it proper to assert that organizations are still unaware of the potential of AI? That is the overall impression of this year’s CES – a showcase of AI-powered kitchen appliances, infant cribs, and other products that do not really need AI.

This is an unexpected development, as AI companies in the United States alone raised $97 billion last year, which is sufficient to build 42 Spheres, what some have called a “wonder of the new world.”

Underwhelming AI-powered products at CES 2025

For status, CES introduced Spicerr. It is an “intelligent” touchscreen spice dispenser that learns your preferences as you cook and recommends unique recipes.

Spicerr’s usefulness is quite doubtful, to say the least. Spicerr does not grind, and it requires 15-$20 patented capsules that cannot be replenished. Apart from that, were folks looking for a salt and pepper shaker that suggested meals in the first place?

Dreo’s ChefMaker 2, an AI-powered air fryer, also makes this list. In theory, it makes more sense than Spicerr. ChefMaker 2 can extract recipes from cookbooks using a page-scanning feature. It can also handle the difficult math of calculating cooking times and temperatures. But is cookbook scanning a feature that the air fryer-buying public requested? Who did it occur to that they needed to calculate cooking times?

Razer’s Project Ava, as the company defines it, is an “AI gaming copilot” who was inexplicably named after the killer computer in the 2014 film “Ex Machina.” Ava essentially beats games for you without actually playing them. Ava obtains still images of your computer screen with your consent and then provides instructions.

However, according to Sean Hollister of The Verge, Ava is controversial. This is because it was trained on gaming manuals, yet it fails to acknowledge the authors. It is also a source of distraction. In its present state, Ava operates with a delay of several seconds and disrupts the game’s audio to provide instructions.

CES 2025 still delivered some AI highlights

CES 2025 still featured mindblowing projects that could be of great use to the global community. For instance, the creative tool displayed at CES 2025 piqued the interest of content creators and designers interested in AI. In a matter of minutes, it is capable of producing text and images of exceptional quality.

It applies intelligent algorithms to produce personalized and engaging content by monitoring trends and user preferences.

This instrument facilitates the development of marketing strategies and the composition of captivating narratives. The instrument is uncomplicated for both novices and professionals, which results in the acceleration and enjoyment of creative endeavors.

The most revolutionary healthcare technology came in the form of AI-powered medical assistants. These assistants are capable of providing real-time diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and health monitoring. They facilitate the comprehension of intricate medical information by engaging in conversations with users and applying advanced natural language processing.

An AI-based learning companion was also introduced. The device offers customized tutoring to accommodate each student’s learning pace and method. The interactive elements consist of quizzes, games, and immediate feedback to enhance the learning experience and make it enjoyable.

Finally, an AI delivery drone that could deliver the last mile accurately and efficiently. It had real-time mapping to see obstacles and changing weather conditions.

Meanwhile, Nvidia, the chipmaker, announced its most ambitious technology vision yet. In a packed keynote on January 6, CEO Jensen Huang revealed a broad array of products spanning consumer gaming, robotics, self-driving cars, and AI development tools.

These new products reflect a strategic push to expand its AI leadership as the company’s shares touched a record high of $149.43 on Monday (worth $3.66 trillion).
