World announced a new subsidy for gas fees. Under this scheme, fees from bots and institutional users will be used to reduce these fees for private users.
So far, this announcement has not arrested the dramatic price decline of the WLD token.
World, the crypto identity project recently known as Worldcoin, announced a new gas subsidy plan via a social media post. The company recently launched World Chain, a blockchain protocol designed to highlight World’s new direction as an ecosystem rather than a token project. Moving forward, this blockchain will also work towards “free gas for humans.”
“The fees that are going to be accumulated from the trading bots, MEV arbitragers, firms in general; anyone who’s not a human, which will be priced normally like you would in any other blockchain, will be reused to create a gas subsidy that will be able to go to humans,” Liam Horne, an advisor for World, claimed.

This connects to the World’s philosophy of validating human identity and user credentials. World is directly concerned with AI, deepfakes, and similar digital methods of impersonation, but institutional clients will also qualify as “non-human.” Horne did not claim that subsidies would make gas free for private users; he only claimed that they would attempt it.
However, this “very fun idea,” as Horne put it, might end up more of a gimmick. World’s WLD token was bleeding before the major rebrand, and it has only continued to collapse in the following weeks.
On one hand, WLD has seen a legitimate price bump in the last 24 hours. However, due to the timing, it seems totally unconnected to this announcement.

For example, Ethereum’s developers have consciously worked on lowering transaction fees this year, and this asset is showing strong signs of a rally.

Nonetheless, it’s important to be realistic about the prospects here. World pitched this subsidy with a slogan of “we’re gonna take from the bots and give to the humans,” but that’s an oversimplification. If “firms in general,” i.e., all institutional users, will directly subsidize private individuals, this will de-incentivize their use of World Chain.
