U.S. shares lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.47%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrials, Healthcare and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.47%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.61%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.63%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 6.23% or 6.40 points to trade at 109.12 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 1.94% or 3.08 points to end at 161.80 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.38% or 3.10 points to 228.22 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 2.95% or 10.07 points to trade at 331.65 in late trade. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) declined 2.13% or 1.26 points to end at 57.92 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) shed 2.10% or 12.72 points to 593.15.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which rose 12.80% to 57.82, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which was up 8.65% to settle at 93.22 and First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which gained 7.14% to close at 195.14.

The worst performers were Leidos Holdings Inc (NYSE:LDOS) which was down 13.60% to 167.96 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which lost 11.41% to settle at 18.01 and Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which was down 10.95% to 26.39 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Molecular Templates Inc (NASDAQ:MTEM) which rose 89.07% to 0.61, VivoPower International PLC (NASDAQ:VVPR) which was up 70.89% to settle at 1.35 and Omeros Corporation (NASDAQ:OMER) which gained 65.87% to close at 6.95.

The worst performers were Sow Good Inc (NASDAQ:SOWG) which was down 56.78% to 4.24 in late trade, Wellchange Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:WCT) which lost 47.47% to settle at 4.15 and Nuvectis Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:NVCT) which was down 46.30% to 5.73 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1756 to 1049 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2252 fell and 1075 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.07% to 14.31.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.64% or 16.50 to $2,570.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.28% or 0.19 to hit $68.62 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.17 to trade at $72.45 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.53% to 156.27.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 106.84.
