Donald Trump said that one of his many first Executive Orders on January 20th would be to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada. He added that China would be charged an additional 10% tariff on top of any other tariffs on all Chinese goods coming into the United States.
Trump raised concerns over the large amounts of drugs, especially Fentanyl, that were coming into the U.S. from China through the porous Mexican border. The incoming president said his many talks with China about the drugs sent to the U.S. from their country had not been followed through by the Chinese government.

The incoming president, Donald Trump, took to Truth Social Media, where he shared his plans to force China into acting on previous talks that were never followed through. According to Trump, he had carried out many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular, Fentanyl, that were being sent to the U.S. He called out the inaction of Chinese representatives who had previously promised to institute the maximum penalty of death for any drug dealers caught shipping drugs to the United States.
Trump claimed it was unfortunate that the strict oversight was never enacted, and the drugs continued to pour into the U.S., primarily through Mexico, at levels never seen before.
“Until such time as they stop, we will be charging China an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs, on all of their many products coming into the United States of America.”
~ Donald Trump
The president-elect thanked the Chinese officials in advance for their ‘attention to this matter’ in hopes that they would honor their promise to help keep the U.S. a drug-free territory.
Trump urges Mexico and Canada to play ball or pay heavily for it
In a separate long post on his Truth Social Media page, Trump went after Mexico and Canada, blaming them for their laxity in dealing with the issue of illegal migrants flooding into the U.S. through their borders. He mentioned that thousands of unchecked people were pouring in through Mexico and Canada, bringing drugs and crime to ‘levels never seen before.’ Trump claimed that right now, there was a caravan composed of thousands of people from Mexico that seemed unstoppable in its quest to get into the United States.
Trump asserted that one of his many Executive Orders immediately after taking office on January 20th would be to sign all the necessary documents charging Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all their products coming into the U.S. market. He said that the tariff would remain in effect until the drugs and illegal aliens stopped their ‘invasion’ of the U.S. through its ‘ridiculous open borders.’
Trump added that both Mexico and Canada had the absolute right and power to solve this long-simmering problem easily and demanded that they do so. Until such time as they do, it is time for them to pay a very high price, emphasized Trump.
