Info of SPX500

The US500, also known as the S&P 500, is a stock market index that tracks the performance of 500 large-cap companies listed on US stock exchanges. It is one of the most widely followed and diversified benchmarks for the US equity market, representing about 80% of the total market capitalization of US public companies.

The US500 was created in 1957 by Standard & Poor's, a financial services company that later merged with Dow Jones & Company to form S&P Dow Jones Indices, the current provider and maintainer of the index. The US500 index has shown a long-term trend of increasing profits over the past 90 years, with an average annual return of about 10%.

The index is calculated using a market capitalization-weighted method, meaning that the larger the company’s market value, the more influence it has on the index’s movement .

The S&P500 index is composed of 11 sectors, each representing a different industry or group of related industries within the US economy. The sectors are communication services, consumer discretionary, consumer staples, energy, financials, health care, industrials, information technology, materials, real estate, and utilities. The index is rebalanced quarterly to reflect changes in the market, such as mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, and bankruptcies.
