Sony announced that PS Plus Premium subscribers will get Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 as a free trial. The deal for the sci-fi action game will kick off on December 3, 2024, with its end date currently unknown. Space Marine 2 was released in September 2024 for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5 and enjoyed global commercial success. The game’s inclusion in December’s PS Plus Premium catalog comes as part of PlaysStation’s 30th anniversary celebrations and will allow gamers to play it without making a full purchase.
The inclusion of Space Marine 2 is speculated to occur for a similar duration as other game trials on PS Plus Premium. Previous game trials allowed gamers to enjoy approximately two hours of gameplay. Saber Interactive, the developers behind Space Marine 2, announced they would add more content in December.
Sony also revealed that three PlayStation 2 classics will also feature in December’s PS Plus Premium catalog. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves will all be available to subscribers this festive season.
PS Plus Essential subscribers will also be catered for, with Sony announcing that the subscription will include Pokemon-inspired MMO Temtem (PS5), Aliens: Dark Descent (PS4, PS5), and EA’s 2021 Game of the Year, It Takes Two (PS4, PS5).
PlayStation also announced that gamers will get a free online multiplayer weekend between December 6th – 8th to mark the occasion. During the weekend, gamers can play online multiplayer for the titles they own without a PlayStation Plus membership on PS5 and PS4 consoles.
Sony also revealed that the December 6th – 8th weekend will also feature an esports tournament. The tournament will feature EA Sports FC 25, 2K 25, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, UFC 5, and Madden NFL 25. Gamers who own the games are qualified to participate and play to win game-specific prizes.
Sony also announced their 30th anniversary-themed sweepstakes, which will run from December 10 to 23, and 30 players in each participating country will win 30-month PlayStation Plus Premium membership. Gamers can enter by playing any classic games after purchasing any PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe membership.
After Sony made its announcement, gamers went online and reacted to the new games announced for December. Many gamers fawned over the inclusion of the two Sly titles, stating that they could now play the game on PS5 without cloud streaming them on PS3. However, some gamers criticized PlayStation’s decision to lock the classic games behind the PS Plus Premium paywall. The selection of the Sly games in the classics catalog also sparked speculation that Sony may also release the Ratchet and Clank games under the same format.
